![]() This is mostly a 20-30’s young adult crowd. It’s so loud that you have to lean in to talk to people you are sitting or standing near. Be aware that this area is very dark when you enter and your senses will be hit with loud music spun by a DJ there. Entering: You enter a small vestibule and then comes an onslaught of people packed in there waiting. The outside is non-descript, you would never know what is inside if you didn’t open the door and check it out. We were a party of four with reservations at 8 pm. I definitely will not be going back to that location and feel bad for anyone that has a 9:00pm or later reservation. Still no smile, no personality, no sincerity. She brings out 3 strawberries cut in half with a lit candle in one and says sorry our kitchen was closed. We get our food around 10, eat and expect to have a dessert to celebrate the birthday. We got there at 9 and did not have a server come take our order until 9:30.) A few minutes later we put in our order. It’s 9:30 now, and she doesn’t say hello, doesn’t ask if we want to order another drink, doesn’t say anything other than, “Are you ready to order our kitchen closes at 10:00pm” (Keep in mind Open table let’s you make reservations until 9:45. The next server comes to our table about 10 minutes after we got our drinks. I thought we may have a chance to g et a better more friendly server. We don’t see him for the rest of the night. He brings our drinks slams them on the table and races off. He had no expression, seemed irritated and asked what we wanted to drink. ![]() Once we arrived at the restaurant we were seated and had our first server come to our table after 5-10 minutes. We have been to the Downtown location, but we decided to try Uptown for a birthday celebration. ![]() There are too many good restaurants in NYC to waste your time in this one would not recommend.Tao Uptown should not take reservations past 9:00pm. To name just a few of the things he did: refused to change our table even though there was plenty of space and other families were getting seated after us in diferente tables, condescendingly said that my daughter was underage without caring to ask for an ID which she had because she is 22, and essentially tried to kick us out after raising his tone to us and not wanting to refund our deposit even though we made it on time to our reservation. The Manager Ryan Stras was incredibly rude and threatening. Worst of all, when we talked to the Manager, he dismissed our bad experience by saying that “it was usual for customers to have to do long waits to be seated despite their reservations” which makes it seem like this is a recurring problem. The reason was that there were no waiters but you could see 8 waiters just talking among themselves. The restaurant was literally at 1/5 of capacity and offered an awful table which. Although we had to make a deposit to reserve a table, we got our table 20 minutes later. WOW!!! It is not a compliment- this restaurant has an unbelievably bad management.
